The students will continue practicing the first conditional in different contexts in this lesson.

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for functions/first conditional in various contexts.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in various contexts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Ask the students to think of dangerous/scary situations they may face? 2. Write the situations on the board. 3. Ask the students to use the situations to ask each other, what if...?- I will...

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

We will review the six functions that we learned in the last class. 1. Ask the students to list the six functions. 2. Make one sentence for each.

Controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. In pairs, student A is very adventurous, and student B is very anxious. 2. Student A and student B will role-play the following situations: A. Holiday to South America. You will spend six months taking photographs of the wilderness. B. You are giving up a well-paid job to become an artist in pairs. C. You are getting married to a singer in a rock band who has a bad reputation. 3. I will support the students emerging language and accuracy.

Semi-Controlled Practice (15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1. The students will discuss the following question in pairs: Are people in your family superstitious? What are they superstitious about? Are you a superstitious person? 2. The students will use the words in the box to make sentences about some superstitions. 3. The students will share their answers after they finish.

Feedback (5 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty

I will provide feedback on accuracy and fluency.
