Materials

Abc copybook
Abc smartboard
Abc Visual aids (Pictures)
Abc white board and markers

Main Aims

  • Develop the speaking skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Teaching vocabulary related to animals and how to talk about your preferences in English.
  • Improve their communication skills.
  • Encourage working in team skills.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Showing them pictures of animals and eliciting what can you see, if you like animals or not.

Presentation (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the topic and start conversations

Divide them into groups and ask them to take notes about their friends' preferences in animals and if they have a pet or not. The teacher will monitor and record their grammar mistakes. After that, discuss the topic and ask every student about his friends' preferences.

Practice (5-10 minutes) • To practice speaking in this topic

Open discussion with the teacher about animals asking every student and trying to correct pronunciation and grammar without a lot of interruptions. The main purpose will be on speaking as a skill more than grammar and vocabulary. At this time, I show some pictures of pets on the smartboard (I can ask them before the session to get their pictures with their favorite pet to put it on the smartboard instead.)

Production (10-15 minutes) • To provide a follow up activity

Ask everyone to come out to the board to speak about his pet and how special is this bond after giving them time to organize their ideas. The teacher can interfere with his presentation by asking some questions to let the class be more engaged in the presentation and allow them to ask for details too to enhance their communication skills.
