Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice present continuous for future arrangements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop students' listening skills in gist understanding

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Have slide with photos on it Also tell them to answer relatively quickly so multiple people can answer, unlike Luis last time

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Listen to the audio. Have them answer like 3 basic questions as they're listening. 1. Australia 2. New Zealand 3. Mexico

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Maybe have a google form with the fill in the blank verb forms... So like "On Saturday I'm ("visit") my aunt and uncle." They have to turn them into -ing verbs? Kinda easy though https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hCbR8I2MZFz91fsCuNJCSABCujsXCjiOi6VmDs05fX8/edit

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

worst part baby! 5.a (ADAPT THESE QUESTIONS POSSIBLY?) a Do these sentences talk about the past, present or future? b Do they talk about possible or definite arrangements? c Does Esmay know exactly when these things are happening? d Has she booked the flight and the cycling holiday? CCQs: 1. Are we talking about the present or the future? (Future) 2. Is it a definite arrangement? (Yes) 3. So is it in my diary? (Yes) Or maybe rephrase: Is it on my calendar? Use timeline from Workman book

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Do Activity 8 on page 55.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give students time to think of 3-4 questions to ask about the future (or maybe just adapt the questions from Controlled Practice), and 3-4 answers. Split up into pairs to discuss, and then switch them. i.e. "What are you doing next week?" "I am playing basketball with my brothers" or "I am studying for my exam."
