Description

In this lesson ss will learn some vocabulary through test - teach - test. ss will be asked to match some verbs with nouns. ex go on a holiday / go diving.. the aim of this task is to focus on any difficulties they might face while answering the questions as they will be introduced to ss to clarify their meaning, form and pronunciation. ss will be asked to rearrange some questions then they will use them to practice speaking. that will be useful to monitor their progress with TL

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- show ss picture1 tell ss that this is your friend Andy - ask ss: where is he? / ss :beach, on the beach . - tell them that he like to travel a lot then show them picture2 and ask ss: which country is this? then which city? ss: Egypt, Cairo. - tell them that Andy wants to visit Egypt then demo with them one or two examples about activities and places here in Egypt ( he can ride a camel / he can go to the pyramids) -ask ss : what activities can he do here? what places can he visit? - give them 2 minutes to discuss in pairs (s-s) three or four things he can do. - ask 3 or 4 for feedback (s-T)

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- use the power point to show ss the task1 ( match verbs with nouns) - tell ss : we have 7 verbs here. make sure they can read them ex what is the first one? show them the cards that they need to match the verbs with. make sure they can read them - tell ss which verb can we use with the first cars. - demo with ss one or two examples - instruct them to use one verb with each card and to work in pairs (s-s) -ask icqs : are you going to use two verbs with the same card? / ss: one do you need to use the same verb twice? / ss: no - set 1mintue to finish the activity. hand out the cards - monitor ss and take notes - ask ss to stand up and check their peers' answers (ss-ss) - give ss the answer feedback (T-ss)

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1- focus on the phrases or vocabulary that were difficult for ss during the previous task. ex ss might confuse go to with go on and go. - model two sentences / drill / write. draw ss' attention to preposition . you can point to your fingers ( go on a holiday) ----( go + on + noun) / ( go to the beach )-----( go + to + place ) / ( go shopping )--------( go + verb ing) 2- rent (verb) - show picture of a hotel. try to elicit the word. ask ss where can Andy stay? ss: hotel T-does he have to buy the hotel ? / ss: no - what can he do ? / ss might be able to give the correct answer, if they couldn't T will provide the answer. T- ask ccqs. ex will he stay for long time or short time maybe for a week or a month? ss: short time t- will he pay money for that ? ss: Yes T- will he buy the hotel room? ss: No 3- a whale and a cable car - use pictures / drill / write 4- cell (prison) - use a picture of a prison, try to elicit the word prison, then count the number of cells in the picture with ss. T- is it a big or small prison? ss: big or small. how many doors/ windows are there? . point to one of the cells and ask ss : what is this? ss might be able to give the correct answer if not T provide the answer ask ccqs : is it big or small? ss: small is there much furniture? ss: No can criminals sleep in it? . drill / write

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1- use the power point to show task 2 ( rearrange) - demo with them one or two examples - ask ccqs : are you going to change any word? ss: No - ask the to continue the task and set 1: 2 minutes to finish it - monitor ss and help them if they need it. - ask them to check their answers in pairs (s-s) - T provides feedback (T - ss) 2- ss will practice speaking using the previous questions. they work in open pairs - demo with them ask one of them the first question and wait for his answer then ask him to ask you any of those questions and you give the answer -ask ss to continue the task ( ss- ss) 3- use the power point to show a touristic map of Cape town a - ask ss: which city is this? and which country? ss might or might not give the correct answer. tell ss that they going to listen to Andy talking about his holiday and ask them to answer the 2 questions - hand out the sheets and ask ccqs : are you going to write long sentences? ss: No are you going to write any thing down here? point to the next part of the task / ss: no b - ask ss to chek their answers ( s-s) before giving them feedback (T-ss) c- tell ss that they will listen to the audio again and they have to tick true or false to the statement - demo one or two examples with them then ask ss to continue - ask ss to check their answers in pairs (s-s) before you give them the answers feedback (T-ss)

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- ask ss to discuss in pairs (s-s) which country they would like to visit and why. ask ss to talk about the places they can visit their and the activities they can do? - demo an example with them. ex I would like to visit Lebanon it's a beautiful country and people there are kind. I can visit Beirut and go skiing there....
