Description

In this lesson the students will be introduced to adjectives with an emphasis on the opposite type to selected words. The students will also practise with games choosing the opposite words.

Materials

Main Aims

  • The aim is for the students to understand the meaning of adjectives with an emphasis on using the opposite adjective to examples given. Pronunciation of these chosen words will be included. The students will understand the definition of what an adjective is.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The students will be able see the pictures and choose examples to describe things using adjectives. This will be shown through vocalisation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

PPT 1 Show the first image of friends Elephant and Rat, how are they? what do they have in common? do they look the same? Teacher will ask kids to describe how the elephant and the mouse are.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

PPT 1 Next slides. "What are the opposite words (adjectives)?" A= Opposites words are words that expresses an opossed meaning to another word. In this case the two words are antonyms. Example: Like Hot and.... Cold Teacher will show the rest of the slides. And will ask " What is the opposite?" through all the slides.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

We will Check Slides #2 and ask the kids to participate and what will be the opposite of tht word (shown). Kids cant read but they will not and will help them to memorize.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

We will Play a Game... "What is the opposite of...?" kids can come to the whiteboard and show pointing at the pictures what is the opposite of that image.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Teacher talks. "Ok so now we learnt about the opposite words to describe things and objects and people. Right? We know that opposite words have a different meaning between each other. Can someone give me an example XXXXX of two opposite words? ..... Very good.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Our last activity is i want you to come and choose a card and then look for the opposite word. Shows the matching cards and mix them.
