Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of comparatives in the context of opinion and preferences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a comparatives in the context of opinion and preferences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. The students will write down random adjectives on a piece of paper. 2. In pairs, they will switch papers and write comparatives. 3. The students will switch papers again and write the superlatives. 4. The students will then read some of their answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. Listen carefully while I read the beginnings of ten sentences. 2. I will reread the sentences write the endings while I'm reading them. 3. Share your answers with the class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1. Make a list of the possessions you have on you and your abilities. 2. Compare them with the one sitting next to you. 3. Share your answers with me.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. Ask me about the prices of the items in the box. 2. Write sentences comparing the prices with your country. 3. Compare sentences in pairs. 4. Share your answers with me.
