Description

In this lesson the students will get the chance to practice using comparatives in real life context using adjectives they have learned previously.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of comparatives in the context of preferences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a comparatives in the context of preferences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Take a look at the list of adjectives, take a minute to read them. 2. The students will work in pairs to see how many comparatives and superlatives can they write. 3. The students will share their answers with me.

Test #1 (10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1. In pairs, read the questions one at a time. 2. Have a discussion and answer the questions. 3. In pairs, write two questions about preferences (could be from the list) chose one each then survey the rest of the class. 4. Share your survey results.

Teach (10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1. Give examples of regular comparatives. 2. Give examples of exceptions. 3. Elicite the answer to a few examples and questions on the board. 4. Give the students the chance to ask questions.

Test #2 (5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1. In groups of three or four, the students will answer the questions about the UK/US. 2. The students will then share their answers with me.

Free practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. Divide the students into two teams. 2. each team will write ten sentences that include adjectives. 3. Take turns reading your own sentences. 4. One of the students on the other team has to reply immediately with a comparative. 5. Provide feedback on accuracy.
