Description

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of quantifiers in the context of recycling in the modern household.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about recycling in the context of a modern household.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will show images of recycling containers and facilities. -T will elicit the names of these images: --What is this container called? --What kind of facility is this? -Once elicited, T will direct ss to questions written on the board: --Do you and your family recycle? --Do you know people who recycle? --What do you throw away that you could recycle?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Ss listen to an audio clip about trash and recycling in the U.K. -Ss are instructed to circle the true statement spoken in the audio clip. -At the end, students will check in pairs. -When finished, an answer key will be posted to the board for reference.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, pronunciation, and form of the target language

-Ss will listen to the audio again to underline quantifiers they can identify. -Ss will check with each other in pairs. -When finished, T will present answer key to the board. -T will transition to the markerboard and clarify: --Meaning: Does it tell us how much it is? Yes. --Pronunciation: One drill or two on each term. --Form: Are quantifiers nouns? No, they are adjectives. They go before nouns. ---Phrases: enough/not enough, plenty, loads, too many, too much, a few/a little.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for the freer practice

-Ss will ask a set of questions to each other and answer using the target language where encouraged. --Ss will be able to refer to the written record on the board for this activity.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of quantifiers

-Ss will break into pairs and write about where they live: --Four good things --Four bad things -At the end, they will mingle pairs and compare what they have written.
