Main Aims

  • To provide clarification on the meaning, form and pronunciation of verbs related to this lesson, and practiced this in a controlled and freer exercise

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide opportunities for the students to practice the new vocabuary while they are able to use their skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the class showing the Ss three pictures, and makes them discuss among them the question "which one do you prefer to use to look for information?" . after listening the answers then the T asks, "which one do you think childrens prefer?" "Can you tell, me what type of questions do children ask?" This is to see if the language can be linked.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Reading for gist Ss are asked to skim through a text where they have to see if some of the questions that appear in there are similar to the ones they said before. Ss will tell the teachers about the questions they had similar prior reading the text. T gives Ss a few example of verbs e.g. question, respond, quarrel, argue (Information verbs) for the students to look on the text and asks them "by looking at this list and with your own words, what is an information verb?".

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T sets a slide for the students to work on. S are asked to to pair up the synonyms and to put them next to their meaning 1.- question-wonder: to ask yourself questions or express a wish to know about something. 2.- Research-Investigate: to study a subject in detail, especially in order to discover new information or reach a new understanding. 3.- Discuss-Debate: to talk about a subject with someone and tell each other your ideas or opinions. 4.- Inquire- look into: to ask for information to another person. 5.- Reply -Respond: To answer 6.- Argue- quarrel: an angry disagreement between two or more people or groups The teacher shows the students two different sentences in one the word "wonder" is a noun and in the other one is a verb, the Ss are asked to find out which one it is and why I wonder if anyone has ever tried to surf a tidal wave (V) I can name the seven wonders of the world (N) after T sends a g-form to check if the students understand the meaning of the words. T checks on form and pronunciation (making enphasis on the really difficult words) by drilling and helps and gives feedback on the mistakes.
