Main Aims

  • To provide practice for the students skills and subskills (listening and speaking) and gist to check for specific information in the context of the lesson.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarifiction for collocations used in the text. To check on students fluency and pronunciation during speaking activities. To provide support and positive feedback in each one of the stages

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Asking students 2 different questions about them. Q1:Have you ever gone to therapy? (do not ask why, cause it can be too personal) If students say yes follow with "was it a good experience?", if they say no, ask "have you ever thought on going to therapy?" Q2: Do you think that that therapy is necessary for a healthy life?, and why? Ask students to share the answers.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T present meaning for four different words, where students will have to fit the collocation word and meaning and then share the answer among them and get immediate feedback on their answers. (CCQ's during meaning) The words are Feeling: (N) emotions, especially those influenced by other people. Collocation: blue (Two syllables, stress on the first one) Shout: (V) to speak with a very loud voice, often as loud as possible, usually when you want to make yourself heard in noisy situations. Collocation: Blue (One syllable) Stress: (N) great worry caused by a difficult situation, or something that causes this condition. Collocation: Deal with (1 syllable) Temper: (N) the tendency to become angry very quickly. Collocation : Violent (two syllables stress on the first one) T starts drillins and small error corrections on pronunciation. (CCQs during pronunciation)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows two pictures to SS. Ss are asked to answer two questions: How do you think this type of therapy is named? In which cases this type of therapy is used? T starts an audio for the students to check on the answers to the previous question(The audio will be stopped when the answers appear for the students to write them down) before going to the next activitie.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T ask Ss to answer a g-forms before listening to the audio for a second time. the statements are: (5-6 min) Eight out of ten people have problems controlling their anger. (false) With destruction therapy you use anger to destroy something in a controlled way. (True) If you think about a situation when you were angry, the therapy will be more enjoyable. (True) In Spain some companies pay for their workers to build hotels. (False) In Mexico they use destruction therapiy in hospitals. (False) Laughter therapy can help people to feel less pain. (True) On average, children laugh 400 times a day and adults laugh seventeen. (True) T replays the audio and let students correct the answers. T gives immediate feedback. (3)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will give ask a few questions to Ss. 1.- Have you ever heard of any of these therapies? 2.- Do you think they are good ideas? why? 3.- Would you like to try them? (Try to Elicit the answers) Ss share their answer between them and after a few minutes they share them with T. T gives some examples of the therapies that the students might have heard of..
