Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice character adjectives in the context of describing one’s character.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will prepare a presentation with pictures showing different peple and a questions that reads: What do they look like? I will give an example such as, he looks friendly and nice. This is to get them to activate their prior knowledge and use any vocabulary they might know to describe one's character. I might give students 40 seconds to think of a word quickly to describe the people and then we will share. After I will introduce the name of the topic which will be words to describe one's character.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will prepare a handout with activity from SS book (1a)The handout will have all the vocabulary and SS must put them in one of the two categories: possitive or negative. SS will work on this indivually for 2-3 minutes and then they will check in breakout rooms. After SS return to main session I will show an answer key and we will go over the one words that SS struggled with.

Teach (7-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

In this part of the lesson I will cover Meaning, Form, and pronunciation of any of the words that students struggled with in the previous exercise.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

For this activity I will send the SS a link for the google form where they will find the activity. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSduM6bM-u6ctDLCBm7mHk8_2gjjSI3g62YK3m-B9He3tBq3LQ/viewform After SS are finished I will show answers to SS and give feedback on any number that they sturggled with.

Free practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Tell students to select 8 different adjectives that we have just learnt. Four should describe them and the other four will be used to distract their partners. Students will be put in breakout rooms and they will say their adjectives to their partners and they will try to guess the four that apply to them. After the activity, I will bring SS back to main session for feedback to end the class.
