Description

In this session, we are going to start with the question ''What kind of food do you cook or eat during festivals? ''The lesson will start with a video of Chinese traditional New Year's food - dumplings. They will later be introduced to the steps about how to make dumplings. We are going to read the ppt together to learn some verbs, After the class discussion, they will be divided into pairs and talk about what's their holiday food and what kind of cooking experiences do they have about holiday fool. Food and the festival are to create a warm atmosphere, so this class is about encouraging students' fluency more than accuracy.

Main Aims

  • The main aim of this class is to provide specific vocabulary to understand the meaning and try to make sentences with those verbs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The sub aim of this class is to practice their listening skills while learning new vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

I will start to put some pictures on the whiteboard (computer) about families or friends gathering together to eat on New Year's or on the holidays, and I will ask the students to think about what kind of traditional food they would like to cook or eat on a festival.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show students PPT first, discuss the meaning of the red word together. When do you use those words and practice pronunciation.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show the verb cards to the students, read the cards with phonics and repeat to reinforce what they just learned.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Fill-in-vocab: Set students into pairs, hand out them a paper with pictures and sentences, communicate to each other, and write down the answer.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To create a relatively relaxed environment for production. Students divide into pairs to discuss their previous experience with cooking and holiday food.
