Description

In this lesson, the students will learn to speak about something they are getting used to or can't get used to.

Materials

Abc Handout

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of be/get used to in the context of making new habits.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a short sentences in the context of making new habits.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Ask the students to mention three things they find difficult to get used to. 2. The students will take a minute to discuss it together. 3. The students will share with the teacher.

Test #1 (10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1. In pairs, listen to the following prompts and agree on an explanation using be not used to. 2. Write it down. 3. Compare your answer with your classmates.

Teach (10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1. Write a few sentences on the board with be/get used to. 2. Elicit the meaning. 3. Instruction.

Test #2 (10-15 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1. In pairs, please write a letter from a young student who went abroad to study and write to their parents about life in a new city. Use different forms of be/get used to. 2. Share your writing with us.

Free practice (5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
