Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a few pictures and images of Valentine's day gifts and holiday decorations to have students guess about what the article will be about.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Present questions to the students about their personal experience during the holiday this year or a previous year.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Form a general idea of the subject of the article.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Share what they've learned about the details provided in the article.

Share with classmates in pairs which words they've identified and help each other with words they don't know. If there are none, have them discuss their opinions on the statistics of the amount of money spent during the holiday.
