Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Write a few abbreviated words on the board. 2. Ask the students to take a minute to guess the abbreviation of each word. 3. Ask the students to share their answers.

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. The students will listen to the text. 2. Dictation. 3. Listen again and check for any mistakes.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. The students will compare their dictations. 2. The students will read their dictation and look for the following: a. Abbreviation of is b. Abbreviation of has c. Abbreviation of us d. Possessive S 3. The students will underline the above.

Productive Task(s) (15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Describe your best friend’s appearance or their favourite food, activity, show etc., in five sentences. For example Mo’s hair is short and spiky. Li’s favourite food is pizza. 2. I will provide support on the emerging language. 3. Share your sentences with us.
