Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

* The teacher asks the students 'What is the favourite special occasion in Turkey?' The answer will be probably 'Christmas'. To remember Christmas, the teacher shows a video.Firstly, the whole class watches the Christmas video and then the teacher asks 'When is the Christmas? What do you do in Christmas? Is it your special occasion? Why is Christmas your favourite occasion? Do you know any special occasion in different countries? What are the names of special occasions in different countries? Have you ever heard Halloween? ' * The teacher elicits the answers from the student.

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

* The teacher writes the vocabulary from the text ' theme, supernatural,costumes, candles,evil,spirit,graveyard' on the whiteboard. * The teacher ask the ss ' Which words are familiar to you?'. The teacher elicits the answers. *Before showing a video about Halloween, the teacher ask the ss ' If you see any pictures or words that you heard on the whiteboard, could you write them on your notebook? *After watching the video, the teacher asks 'Which word have you described and seen in this video?' The teacher can ask question about the video ' What did you learn about halloween? Is there any similar occasion in our country?...' * The teacher elicits the answers, thus the ss can learn the highlighted words in the text.

While-Reading (6-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

* In exercise 1 speaking, the ss go through the vocabulary and phrases and check for understanding. *In pairs, the ss take turns describing the photo and they discuss the questions 'What can you? Where do you think the people are going?' * In exercise 2, the ss listen to this text (2.04). The ss find out ' which other festival does it mention as well as Halloween? * The teacher gives a whole class feedback. *Students read the text and answer the questions in pairs. *Before the lesson, the teacher sticks the answer key outside of the classroom .Then, the teacher ask the ss to find and get the answer outside of the classroom.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

* The ss match the highlighted word with definitions in exercise 4. * Then, the ss check answers in pairs. * Lastly, the teacher writes the answer key on the whiteboard '1.supernatural 2.spirit 3.candle 4. theme 5. evil 6. graveyard 7. costumes * The teacher divides the classroom into two groups. First group discusses about the first question in exercise 5 and the second group discusses about the second question in speaking part. The teacher gives them 2-3 minutes to talk about their question. When they finish, three students change their group and ask another group second question. *The teacher monitors helping out as necassary
