Main Aims

  • To Provide students the grammar of simple past tense form in the context of daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To have the students familiarized with spoken English while identifying simple past form verbs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

We talk about yesterday and compare and contrast our actions against our usual routines

Presentation (8-10 minutes) • The concepts of simple past are presented here

The concept of simple past is presented here. Stages include regular verbs, irregular verbs, negatives, questions and short answers.

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To help the students learn and practice the new concept

Students try to solve a crossword puzzle

Fun & Listening (5 minutes) • To improve the listening skills of students through a song

students listen to a song and look at the lyrics while trying to underline simple past verbs

Semi-Controlled Practice (15-20 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students attempt to fill the blanks in pairs

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a fun way of practicing the simple past tense

Groups of up to four students roll the dice on their turn and move their respective pawns, upon reaching a spot, they have to answer the question correctly for a reward of 200points. An attempt, however incorrect, has a reward of 100 points while silence yields negative 100 points. whomever can not pay the fine loses. The winner is the player with most points after the final round
