  • To talk about your family freely in speaking activity.

Subsidiary Aims

  • to increase student talking time and decrease TTT through group work activities.
  • To make the class more quite and comfortable to give the shy and anxious students more chance to share their ideas without fear.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will greet the students and start to stick some pictures of families on the board to grab their attention. Then, I ask them to guess what's today's lesson will be about? and I elicit some words from them spontaneously. Then, write them on the whiteboard.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Get them to read a passage related to the picture about someone talking about his family members. T ask the enthusiastic student to read first and praise him\her then ask the shy one to encourage them to participate more during the session.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups. Ask every group to scan the paragraph to find the name of every family member. Set the timer and let's see who will finish knowing the family members correctly first. Ask every group to come out and say their answers out loud, while the teacher is correcting the pronunciation and ask the rest of the class to drill the new vocab in different voices.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask one of the shy students to distribute the handouts with the teacher. Get them to work in pairs to fill in the blanks and match the words. T will more around the class to monitor and take notes with the mistakes. After giving positive feedback, I will correct their mistakes in a nice way and thank them for participating in the session.

Production ( Free Practice) (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T asks the students to write a paragraph about their family members using at least 3 words from today's lesson, then each one will read it aloud and I will tell them to repeat the vocab after me to make sure they pronounce it right (drilling activity).
