Description

In this lesson, students will practice using the present perfect and the present perfect continuous . they will learn how they are formed . When we use them and what is the difference between present perfect and the present perfect continuous . Students will be given many activities about both verbs . These activities include , scanning the previous reading text, arranging adverbs of time for present perfect and simple past, filling gaps with the correct form of these verb.

Procedure

Lead -in (5-8 minutes) • To set the lesson and prepare the students to the lesson

* greet the students and write two sentences on the board. . I have been reading this story for two days. I have read 300 pages. * Distribute pieces of papers with missing words related to the two sentences. * Students discuss in pairs and try to fill the gap with the correct words * write the correct answers on the board and have the students check their answers

Practice (20-30 minutes) • To give opportunity learn the meaning of the present perfect and present perfect continuous.

* In pairs students scan the reading text quickly to find examples of present perfect and present perfect continuous. * Students work in groups to discuss the reasons why the author used the present perfect and the present perfect continuous. * Students discuss all the reasons with the teacher and choose the correct answers. * Write the first part of the two verbs form on the board and choose students to complete the box. Present perfect = s +.....................+......................... Present perfect continuous = S +................................+...............................+....................... * Draw a box on the board withe two titles : Present perfect simple or continuous * Divide the students into three groups and distribute cards with some adverbs of time for both past simple and perfect . * Students work in group to decide which adverb goes with the suitable verb. * Nominate some students to sick the cards on the board and have students check their answers. * Students read exe number 4 ( Complete the sentences with correct form of P.P or P.P.con) * They discuss in group to choose the answer. Groups exchange the answers and mark for each other. * Write the answers on the board and have the students check and discuss.

Closure (5-8 minutes) • To check the students understanding and recap the lesson

* play a kind of game with the students. * Divide the students into two groups ( A ,B ) * Each student in group A takes adverb of time and each student in group B takes a phrase .* Students mingle and make sentence according to the adverb of time , past or perfect. e.g. Yesterday ...................go fishing = I went fishing yesterday. Yet ................................I haven't gone fishing yet.
