Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing an online blog post.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a blog post about going to a music festival

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets students. Students are told that tha the class will be about written blogs. T asks. Have you ever written a blog? Do you usually read blogs?, Do you post on social media?, what do you post?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading.

T shows them a blog entry. T draws attention to the pictures and the title before reading. Students are given 3 minutes to read and are told some questios will be asked afterwards. Gist questions: Where did she go? How did she feel? What did she do? Who did she meet? What happened at the end? Are the events in chronological order?

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students read 5 useful language samples from the text. T explains that the words in bold are used to link ideas in a sentence or paragraph. Students analyse the linking words in the sentences and match to the correct use. T elicits if necessary. And quicky concep checks by showing three more examples.

Productive Task (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T shows ss the writing task to students,goes over the instructions and gives options to choose 1 topic for their blog. Ss are reminded to write a title for their text and to use linking words. T sets the timer for 8 minutes and students write individually. Once time is over ss are sent to BOR in groups of three to screenshare their writing and make comments on content and language.( 10 minutes)

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

One student volunteers to show their blog in OCFB. DEC is conducted afterwards.
