Description

In this lesson, students learn about the simple past tense through a text about McDonald's and they fill in the blanks by using their grammar knowledge. The lesson starts with a discussion about fast food in general, and followed by a text about KFC, then followed by the grammar part where the students get to practice their awareness about the simple past tense. Also students work on word pronounciations of regular and irregular words via a colorful paper activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide more fluency and accuracy while pronouncing regular and irregular words.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead - in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First, I will ask the students about McDonald's before I start talking about the simple past tense, where they will get to combine their knowledge with their speaking skills.

Exposure of the Functional Language (5-7 minutes) • They will know when/how to use the simple past tense.

Through fill in the blanks exercise students will learn how to use the tense in the right way.

Practicing Useful (3-4 minutes) • Pronunciation Exercises

I will hand them colorful papers to practice their pronunciation skills in simple past tense. For 'd' sound they will put the pink papers on the air and for the 't' sounds in the end of the words, they will put the blue papers on the air. I will monitor this activity and correct their mistakes.

Feedback and error correction (2-3 minutes) • Providing feedback to students

I will correct their errors if I hear or notice anything wrong.

Productive Tasks (3-5 minutes) • Practicing productive skills

I will ask them questions by the end of the hand out exercises. They will be in pairs and mingle with each other. I will monitor and listen to them, also will correct their mistakes.
