Description

In this lesson, ss learn more about vocabulary that related to work. The lesson starts with showing ss some pictures of different jobs, therefore, ss are allowed to discuss with a partner to share their desire and the reasons of doing a particular job. This is followed by a test where ss get the chance to used ( I would like, I wouldn't mind, and I wouldn't want ). Then the Teacher pays attention to meaning, form and pronunciation of vocabulary items. finally there is a controlled practice through using vocabulary and free practice via a final role-paly speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have been introduced to the meaning, pronunciation and form and been given opportunities for controlled and freer oral practice of vocabulary used in work.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To revise the usage of would and wouldn't.

Procedure

Lead-in (4-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Focus ss` attention on the Powerpoint pictures and try to elicit as much information from them as possible. For example: What’s his/her job?

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To ascertain what language the Ss know and don’t know

Ss do checking meaning and categorizing,

Teach (7-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students may have had difficulty in the first test stage.

Elicit, concept check, drill and write (if necessary) the following vocabulary: physically /ˈfɪzɪkli / (adverb) qualifications / kwɒlɪfɪˈkeɪʃən / (noun) secure /sɪˈkjʊə(r)/ (verb) challenging /ˈtʃælɪndʒɪŋ/ (adjective) responsibilities /rɪˌspɒnsəˈbɪləti/ (noun) opportunities /ˌɒpəˈtjuːnəti/ (noun)

Controlled Practice (Test) (4-7 minutes) • To provide the ss with controlled practice of the target language in order to encourage accuracy.

Demo the task as a class, everyone work alone, then get the ss to work in closed pairs . Provide handouts.

Free practice (8-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Demonstrate this task very carefully. Give out role cards (and job ad). Give them 5 minutes to prepare their role. Perform the interview in pairs.
