This is a writing lesson whose intention is to provide students with opportunities to develop skills and to interact with an authentic text.

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a description in the context of their favorite singer

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of conjunctions in the context of their favorite singer

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I greet Ss and start the lesson by showing the following question: - What's your favorite singer? I will model an answer. - My favorite food is Taylor Swift. Ss will share their ideas.

Exposure (Content Preparation) (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with the opportunity to fully understand the order of a paragraph, and use of the conjunctions.

I will ask Ss to read a text and answer the following question: What is Taylor's occupation? Ss will share their ideas. I will show Ss the previous text highlighting conjunctions. I will ask some CCQs: 1. Do you use and to connect ideas? 2. Do you use but to contrast information? 3. Do you use or in affirmative or negative sentences? 4. Do you use also to add information? 5. Do you use so for consequences? Ss will share their ideas. I will deliver open class feedback.

Exposure (Language Preparation) (7-9 minutes) • To provide conjunctions for the coming writing task

I will show students the conjunctions and a list of definitions. I will ask Ss to match them. I will deliver open class feedback. I will show some sentences with gaps and ask Ss to complete with the correct definition. I will model number one. I will deliver open class feedback.

Productive Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to write their favorite singer's description using conjunctions

I will tell Ss they are going to write a description of their favorite singer on the Padlet platform.

Peer correction (5-7 minutes) • To promote interest in what other students have written

I will ask Ss to check each other works. I will provide Ss with a list of points they have to look for and mark the mistakes they find. Ss check out the mistakes they have made.

Delayed Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To correct mistakes

I will correct mistakes students made in their writing. I will ask if there are any questions left. I will thank the students for their time and hope to see them next week for the final lesson.
