Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Screenshare PPT. Introduce Linda and her gym membership problem. Ask Meaning CCQs for 'Have a gym membership' from LA Sheet. Pose Q in OC: Do you have a gym membership? Why or why not? Nominate 1-2 ss if necessary.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

On Slide 2, pose Q and elicit responses using the pictures: 1. Save money 2. Go for a run 3. Eat healthy Ask Meaning CCQs from TLAS for each. We're going to practice with these phrases to prepare for the reading today. Share Form activity link in chat & screenshare. Notice all these phrases start with a verb - Choose the correct verb for each phrase. Allow 1min and review answers. Ask FCQ from TLAS. Model and drill (sentence, bolded, sentence), note stressed syllables + linking.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Now we'll move on to the reading. Share Form link in chat & screenshare. Tell ss they have 2min to read the first paragraph of the article and choose the best headline. Share paragraph PDF in chat. Preface 2nd reading: That's 2 million pounds every year on gym memberships that people don't use - What is the rest of the text going to be about?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Now we're going to read the rest of the article. Share Form link in chat + screenshare. Tell ss they have 3min to read the article individually. Then they will go to BORs to match the tips to the pictures with a partner for 2-3min. Demonstrate choosing from drop-down options. (ICQ: Are you going to do the activity alone or with a partner?) Share article PDF in chat. 1 - C 2 - A 3 - B 4 - E 5 - F 6 - D 7 - H 8 - G Review answers in OCFB.

Post-Reading/Listening (16-19 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Screenshare PPT. Pose Q: What tips did you find? Nominate 2-3 ss if necessary. Follow-up: Do you do that yourself? Why or why not? Record answers on Slide. Pose 2 discussion Qs (Copy into chat!): 1. Which do you think is the best tip? Why? 2. What do you do to stay fit? Tell ss to discuss with a partner in BORs for 4-5min. Then they will switch BORs to discuss with a new partner. Open BORs, broadcast Qs + screenshare PPT slide again. Pause screenshare. Monitor & collect language (health vocab, collocations) for DEC on PPT slide. Give feedback on ideas + language use in OC.
