Description

In this lesson, students will talk about keeping a personal calendar, identify significant holidays, birthdays, and special dates, and negotiate with each other to arrange business or personal meetings.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation, negotiation in the context of calendars

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of holiday words, arranging meetings and dates in the context of family, friends, work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show slide "is anyone busy" - Sts discuss all the things they have to do and remember during a given week.

Content Prep (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Large group creates a calendar of annual events. BoRs help each other make personal weekly calendars.

Language Prep (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with vocabulary needed in discussing calendar events

BoRs work with MPA jamboard to clarify selected vocabulary.

Language Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Ss role play with sample language prompts to prepare for production task.

Negotiating meetings (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Task #1: In BoRs, Ss use personal calendars to arrange a dinner meeting with their group. Task #2: Switch groups - find a time to go to movies with new BoR. Task #3: Switch groups - when can this group have a party this week?

Feedback (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and DEC
