Main Aims

  • To provide students with the essential tools of reading such as skimming, scanning, predicting, contextualize and ect

Subsidiary Aims

  • Teaching students how to get the gist of a text consists of unknown words and preparing them for handling future readings. 2- practicing their reading comprehension skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students about the place they live in and what's their dream place to live in if they had a chance to live anywhere and why. Afterward i will let them talk about their preferred type of home whether it's a villa or an apartment.

Pre-Reading/Listening (1-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'll show the students pictures from different sections of the house such as bedroom, garage, garden to get them familiar with the topic of our reading.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask the students to read about the three people introduced in the text and compare and contrast their living situation and explain which one would they rather change places with.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

This time I will ask the students to read the passage more closely and individually. I will give them the comprehension questions listed in the book and ask them to discuss them in pair.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

This time we'll go a little deeper about the topic, We'll discuss the pros and cons of an urban life style vs a suburban lifestyle and which lifestyle they prefer to have.
