Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, ss will have practised adverbs of frequency in the context of healthy lifestyles.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

# Show the ss some pictures and ask them different questions. - What do you think? Are they young people? Do they follow a special life style? How? -Do you know people live long lives? -Why do they live long lives? # Ask them to work in pairs for 2 minutes to discuss it and then ask ss if they know people live long lives and elicit the answer from them.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask ss to look at the photo of the oldest man and tell me what's his nationality? How old is he? - Elicit the answers and tell the the answers He's Japanese. - He's 103 years old.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask ss to read the first paragraph of the article( The mystry of Takashani) and write the highlighted words which all express frequency in the chart. P.32 Ask them to do it individually for 2 minutes and then work in pairs to chek their answers for a minute. Show them the answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show ss the differences of the adverbs of frequency by drawing a chart with grading from 0% to 100% and asking them CCQs Elicit a sentence from ss; How often do you drink tea? 6 times per a day. I drink tea every day. = I always drink tea. - Always do you think it means something I do at all times; on every occasion? yes Is it something repeated? yes _ Is it something I do bec I like it? yes Ask them to drill it. write it on the board, then ask them where is the stress? /ˈɔːlweɪz/ what's the form of it? Is it a vervb, a noun or an adverb? Subject+ Adv+ Verb also I will notice that they come Only after verb TO BE( am, is, are) I will say ( He's often ....) and ask them to complete the rest of the sentence writ it on the board . He is often worried about exams. S+ Verb to be+adv I will tell them that (sometimes& Hardly) can come in the beginning of the sentence. Sometimes she takes a taxi. Hardly we use Uber.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ex1d. Get the ss to make sentences about themselves. Demo carefully with the whole class, please. SS write their sentences and check with each other in pairs. Monitor carefully because there is no answer key. Ask the ss if their sentences were similar or different.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ex2 Reading Do 2a and 2b. (this text will prepare them for the speaking task) Demo. Now pre-teach: portions, martial arts and meditate. Ex4. First ss have to choose the correct answers about themselves. 2 minutes Next, they ask each other questions. They can walk around asking each other. Demo both tasks carefully.
