To provide an opportunity to practise how to buy thinking time
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
T shows presents students with two weekly planners and tells them to read them. Then she asks if they could guess who they belong to and why. T will tell them to share their impressions with another S in the chatbox. (2') One will be from the teacher's diary and the other will be Kate MIddleton's. It does not matter if Ss can't guess at this stage. Some Ss may give their opinions. (1')
T tells Ss that they will listen to a short conversation between two friends. They will have to find out when Annie and Rachel can and when they cannot get together. (2') Brief OCFB. (1')
Ss will be given the phrases the speakers used to make invitations and arrangements and they will be asked to classify them INVITING / RESPONDING TO AN INVITATION. (3') OCFB.
T will focus on MPF of the target language through a presentation. (See analysis and CCQs below).
Ss will do activity 2 in which they have to unjumble sentences. Brief OCFB.
T will tell Ss that she and Kate Middleton (the owners of the weekly planners at the beginning of the lesson) want to get together on Zoom, as they regularly do. So they will work in pairs and pretend to be Rosario and Kate. Using the diaries and the target language, the will have to arrange the Zoom session. (4') Then they'll change partners and repeat the activity. (4')
T will focus on some mistakes and good language.
