Description

In this lesson learners listen to a conversation that includes examples of language used to talk about present and past habits, repeated actions and states. I will start by giving example sentences of the TL and I will ask Ss to find the rules of the TL, present simple, present continuos, past simple, and present perfect simple. Ss will practice the TL by choosing the correct verb form and then at the end they wil discuss how their life now is different than five years ago.

  • To provide Ss with opportunities to become responsible for their own learning; to facilitate communication and allow Ss to be independent users of the language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will share with Ss and image of what I normaly eat for lunch to introduce them to the TL. What do you normaly eat for lunch? Most days I'll have a tuna sandwich with tomatoes, lettuce, avocado and a bunch of onions. Potato chips on the side and ice tea... What do you normaly eat for lunch_______? I will nominate one of the students to model the activity so that Ss can discuss in the BOR for a couple of minutes.

Text work, Exposure (8-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss and will listen to an audio that talks about what Guy and Jasmin answered to a survey about eating habits. We'll do it as a group, Write on a piece of paper who said the sentences, Guy or jasmin: 1. I think I'm pretty healthy and I just eat what I like. 2. Most mornings I'll have toast with a lot of peanut butter and jam. 3. My mom's always complaining about my diet. 4. But I used to be so unfit and used I used to eat burguers and fries all the time. 5.And I'd get and ice cream or something on the wayhome from shool every day. 6.And then I read a lot of stuff about healthy eating and I knew my diet had to change. I will share the answers in the chat box for Ss to check on their own. Ss will keep that hand out on the screen so that way they can complete the next stage's activity.

Clarification (8-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss will work as a pair or a group in the BOR to clarify MFP of the TL by answering the following questions about the rules of the use of Present simple, will + infinitive or present continuos, as well as future actions, past simple, would+ infinitive or used used to + infinitive: Eg.1. I think I'm pretty healthy and I just eat what Ilike. We use the__________ to talk about present habits, repeated actions and state(condition,situation). A: present simple 2. My Mom is always complaining about my diet. We often use the _____________with always to talk about present habits and repeated actions that annoy us or happen more than usual. A: present continuous 3. Most morning I'll have a toast with a lot of peanut butter and jam. We can use__________to talk about repeated and typical behavor in the present. We don't usually use this verb form with state(condition, situation) verbs for this meaning. A:will+ infinitive. 4.
