Description

In this lesson, students will learn and practise the past simple with "Wh" questions.

Materials

Abc Book "Face 2 Face" page 42, 43

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the past simple and wh questions in the context of movies

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of fluency in the context of movies
  • To provide practice of MFP of a new lexical items in the context of movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will display images of movies. Students have to discuss together about what the movies have in common. T conducts OCFB and elicits learners' ideas.

Exposure (1-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Learners read a text about James Cameron and answer questions individually. Learners check answers in pairs in breaker rooms. Teacher conducts OCFB and displays answers to the students.

Highlighting (1-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T displays the slide on Jamboard. T demos the task. Students answer individually and place words (verb and interrogative pronoun) into a table. T conducts OFCB and elicit the word order.

Clarification (1-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T elicits MPF of keywords. T explains the meaning by giving an example of the utilization of each word in a sentence.

Controlled Practice (0-10 minutes) • To check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T displays sentences on Jamboard. T demos the task. Students must put the words in the right order. They check their answers in pairs in breaker rooms. T conducts OFCB and shows the answers.

Free Practice (1-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T displays the question of the previous task. T demos the task. Learners answer in pairs (breaker rooms).

Feeback (0-5 minutes) • To provide learners with feedback on the completion of the task and language

T conducts OCFB following the free practice. T displays samples of learner's production or mistakes and identifies the errors or difficulties and correct the latter ones.
