In this lesson students learn about gerund in the context of a park .lesson starts with a conversation about speaking English and then it goes through some practices like finding gerunds in sentences, sentence formulation and etc.

Main Aims

  • In this lesson students learn about the use of gerund through a conversation and some practices

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of gerund in a context of a friend chat and pronunciation practice to improve listening skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher tells a short story about her own experience (gerund grammar based) and then shows sheet in which she summarized the story and asks the students to find every word with " ing ".

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Teacher asks students to assort those words in present participles, adjectives and gerund , in pairs in 5 minutes(in TP it would take just 1 minute) ICQ: are you doing it in pairs or alone?(in pairs) ICQ: how much time? (5 minutes) Now read your answers individually and out loud. Teacher monitors students to classify them correctly.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher presents power point . Teacher uses the sheet and elaborates on it to elicit gerunds by some clues and pantomime. Teacher will focus on pronunciation of the grammar

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Teacher shows gap-filling worksheets on screen and asks learners to fill the gaps alone in 3 minuts. ICQ: are you filling the gaps in pairs or alone?(alone) ICQ: ho much time?(3 minutes) Check your answers in pair. Teacher will show the answer key on screen.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher asks Ls to tell a story about their own experiences using gerunds.
