Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for talking about your opinion on carbon footprints

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of personal carbon footprints and opinions about them.
  • To provide listening practice using an audiio clip about Personal Carbon Footprints in the context of our opinions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students a few questions to get them used to intro the topic of carbon footprints, using our opinions, and climatee change. Ask: Do you think we all generate similar levels of carbon? Ask: Who might generate more? Ask: Who might generate the least? OCFB

Exposure (8-11 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will listen to a short audio clip. They will answer questions related to the dialogue they just heard. They will go into breakout rooms to go over their answers and agree or disagree with the opinions given.

Useful Language (10-11 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Go through 4x TL for opinion giving. Go over MFPA 1- One argument in favor of... 2- I think people should... 3- It would be better if... 4- I just don't think it's right that

Productive Task(s) (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Student will go inito break out rooms twice. The fiirst will be with a prepared idea (they will write 2x ideas to talk about for each topic), the second will be freer practice. FREER PRACTICE Push students into breakout questions to give their opinions on the following: What do you think the world would look like wiith no air travel? - Would this promote more cooperation between countries ort make us more insular? - Would we develop trains first, or transportation by sea? - Do you think people would travel less because of the hassle? Model your own opinion, and gve them 6 mins to chat.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
