Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of adverbs of manner in the context of a text about the daily routines of a girl their age.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sports


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students if they'd like to become Olympic champions/professional athletes to start a discussion. Mention the Winter Olympics

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task.

Display the worksheet and invite them to go through the text and work on task 1.

Controlled Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice scanning and picking the right pieces of information from the text.

1-Have the students go through the text again and work on the task individually 2-Ask them to work in pairs 3-Open classroom feedback

Free Practice (7-10 minutes) • Have the students relate the text to their own personal experiences

1-Ask the students to have a look at task 3 and invite them to think silently. 2-In smaller groups have them discuss the task together 3-OC feedback

Exposure to the target language (6-10 minutes) • To expose students to the target lg and draw their attention to the main part of the lesson

1-Have the students look at the words in bold and highlight them 2-Ask them if they recognize any of the words 3-On the jamboard presentation, remind them of the adverbs of frequency 4-Explain the difference between the adv of frequency and the adv of manner

Language Analysis (6-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

1-On the shared screen show the students how the basic adv of manner are formed 2-Show them the irregularities 3-Ask them to give more example to check their comprehension

Language Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

1-Ask the students to open their SB and invite them to work on the task 2-In pairs have them check their answers 3-Open classroom feedback
