In this lesson, students learn about past continuous tenses by reading a short story that include past continuous and I underline the past continuous parts , I ask one of them to read those parts loudly and tell me the underlined parts to write on the board . Then I will explain the introduction, after it I write more examples. I will explain the way to make question and negative form too. After all, I ask them to give me an example too. I prepared a handout and they have to do it in 2 minutes. They will remember all the answers too because of the game that we have at the end. We will check all the answers all together in a whole class activity. Finally, we have a game. We will make two groups and we have some questions. Each group have to make a line and we start the game. I ask them the questions and they have to answer them only in 30 seconds, after answering each question, that student (who answered) have to go at the end of the line and next member will answer next question. The winner is the group, which answered faster and more correctly.

  • To provide clarification of the pat continuous tense in the context of use and make it in negative and question form. also have fun in the class by playing a game.learning more verbs and their pronunciation


Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I prepared a short story that will be read by one of the students loudly . then she/he will read the underlined parts to me

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

when she /he read the text for me i will write it on the board by using to color blue and red .it helps them to pay more attention and also to know the main and more important parts of the lesson.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

i will highlight the important parts and also the main that's our lesson

Clarification (7-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

first of all will explain the instruction of the past continuous tenses and i will write 2 examples too. after that i will teach the form of it . negative form of the tense and finally i will teach the question form . also i will write 2 or 3 examples for each form.

Controlled Practice (1-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

now the students will give some examples and also i will ask them some questions such as : make this sentence to a negative form or what is its question form? what were you doing yesterday? i hope that every one participate in this activity.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

we have a handout that is explaining a story by pictures about a girl.all the sentences are in past continuous time and the SS have to answer them in 2 minutes. we will check the answer all together or one by will takes only about 1 minute. finally we have a game. we will have ti groups included boys and girls.we will put a table at the middle of the class and each group will stand behind it in a line. i will ask some questions related to the lesson and handout and the SS will answer. each SS who answer the question have to go in the back of the line and next member will answer the next will repeats and repeats until the questions finish. the winner is the group that answer more questions and have more correct answers
