Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will open lesson by playing a 1 minute movie clip of Cast Away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zXWLbr1LyY I will ask SS to work in pairs or small groups and agree on what are the 5 most important items to have if they were on a desert island. Students will share their lists with class.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Talking about general achievement: I will share useful language for SS to incorporate during their discussions: I will show and share a sentence starter and ask students to complete the sentence: "One the ways I find the (achievement) amazing is" "The (achievement) has completely changed our lives " "As a result of the (achievement), we can now do this thing and that thing" "It is incredible to think about how much has changed because of achievement." https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1WrT-bnQCs-G-w1LO9dbI8HkwT9ik1EgfDKsW7JiBmK8/edit#slide=id.g10ad3be877f_0_73

Productive Task 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will start section by saying: "Today I was thinking about the Internet and how much life has changed because of it, both for better and for worse." I will share few ways I have been positively impacted by the Internet. I will ask: "In your opinion how has the internet changed your life for the better? Please think about this and share examples. Explain of how your life has been changed for the better." Students will be given 1-2 minutes of preparation time to consider the topic, look up vocab on their topic, make a note or two. After 5 minutes of sharing with each other I will ask students to share their ideas. As students give me answers I will write them down on a sticky note from Jamboard. https://jamboard.google.com/d/1clVU4UdFrFsOP0IYD_scCG5VMDSOlNDMmjbGR8vxi2s/viewer?f=0

Productive Task 2 (7-9 minutes) • Encourage fluency and confidence in speaking about an achievment.

I will then ask students to consider negative effects of the Internet. I will share an example and change BOR pairings or small groups if applicable. After 5 minutes of sharing we will again share as a group and I will note on the Jamboard.

Productive Task 3 (7-9 minutes) • Fluency and Confidence in speaking about achievement

I will share pictures of 10-15 great achievements. Students will be asked: "What is the most useful achievement? Please work with your partner/BOR to rank the achievements in order of most useful to least." Students will take a screen shot of achievements. SS will work together to rank their list. Students will share rankings with class.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will share with Ss any errors I heard during discussions.
