TP5 // Speaking: Feelings and Emotions
Upper Intermediate level

Description

Students will focus on listening and then speaking with fluency, with many opportunities to collaborate with other classmates.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a coversation in the context of human feelings

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using recording about feelings and moods in the context of human existence
  • To provide deduction and inference about our classmates emotions based on what they are willing to share.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask: What is the most basic thing we all have in common? We will chat about humanity- feelings, and the Pixar movie: inside out- which is really a film for adults, about adult emotions. I will show some pictures and 2x funny video clips the show diversity of emotions and reactions.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will play a 3:22 audio clip of 8 speakers using the target language to express their own feelings and emotions. I will have the students take notes and briefly compare in pairs in BOR

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

give Ss language they can use to do the speaking task I wiil lgo over the Language used to describe and compare (2x slides)

Productive Task(s) (16-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will pull up the following slid with a number of questions and ask the students to read thorugh. I will give them a few minuts to answr onluy the questions that they would like to. Ss will take 3 minutes to answer a few questions that they would like to describe and compare with their partners in BORs. Ss will talk about the topic (talking about personal information) at least twice, switchinig breakout rooms after 4-5 minutes.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

provide Ss with feedback on language based on obserbvations made in BORs
