Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn, practice, and drill new vocabulary related to technology along with some words needed for functional language in the same topic area. Also comparative and superlative adjectives are covered in this lesson.

Abc Listening

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a a letter to your friend and give them information about your devises. In order to give detailed information you need to use comparative and superlative adjectives. in the context of Technology
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Using comparative and superlative adjectives to describe gadget or electronic devices that most people use in the context of Technology
  • To provide gist, scan, detailed, deduction and inference reading practice using a text about Consumer of updated technology in the context of Technology
  • To provide gist, specific information, detailed, deduction and inference listening practice using a text about A man describes how he uses technology during a week in the context of Technology
  • To provide review and some practices about the whole unit (wrap up)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of some technology devices vocabularies and useful adjectives to compare technology devices
  • To provide clarification, introduction and practice the grammar of comparative and superlative adjectives in the context of Technology
  • To provide clarification and practice pronunciation of schwa /ə/ .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will discuss the devices that have been invented in the 20th century. Then they should answer the questions.

Vocabulary • To get familiar with new vocabularies and their pictures

In this section, students should look at the following pictures and label them.

Pronunciation (5-10 minutes) • To practice schwa /ə/

To practice schwa /ə/. The first teacher will practice and get the students to know the pronunciation of schwa /ə/, then they should practice it through 2 activities.

Vocabulary • To get familiar with new vocabularies

After practicing the pronunciation students will get familiar with more vocabularies of technology devices and they will practice them through filling the gaps activity.,

Pre-Listening / Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

For pre-listening, students have 3 questions and the aim of these questions is that prepare students for the listening activity. Students work on these questions in pairs, then the Teacher should play the listening audio and practice the listening section.

Grammar (10-30 minutes) • To introduce comparative and superlative adjectives

Before starting the grammar, the teacher should ask students to talk about 2 gadgets that they use a lot in their daily activities and write some adjectives about those gadgets on the board. Then start comparing them and teach the comparative grammar part. After that teacher will ask another student to talk about another gadget. It goes on till 4 gadgets are on the board. Then teacher starts teaching superlative adjectives. After teaching all about comparatives and superlatives, the teacher will present the blue table which is called grammar booster. The section on practicing grammar part is divided into 2 parts. The first part of the grammar practice is writing and the next part is speaking.

Pre-reading ,While-Reading , Post Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

Pre-reading, the teacher will ask some warm-up questions to get the students familiar with the structure and the context of the reading. While reading: students read the text and try to answer the questions individually. Post-reading: Both skimming and scanning will be practiced in this section.

Speaking (10-20 minutes) • To practice speaking and talk about lexical and grammatical structures that students have been learned

Students should think of a gadget or electronic device that most people use. Use comparative and superlative adjectives to describe what they have chosen. So that the other group(s) can guess what gadget or device they have told about. They can use the following pictures or adjectives as well as their own ideas.

Writing • To practice using lexical and grammatical structures that students have been learned

Before writing, students should think about a gadget which they use most often and another gadget that they would like to update. Students should write a letter to their friends and give them information about their devices. In order to give detailed information, they need to use comparative and superlative adjectives.

Review / wrap up • To review the whole unit

Students can review their knowledge at this part. The teacher can give them some feedback and monitor them in this stage.
