Description

In this lesson SS will learn about narrative tenses. Lesson begins with SS telling story of some pictures,which are the model sentences for the new grammar, then T explains the meaning and form of the new lesson. After that SS will have controlled practices, and as the last activity SS write a story about their partner in the class, discuss it in groups.

Materials

  • To provide review of past tenses and how to use them as narrative tenses in context of storytelling

  • To develop writing skill by writing stories about SS past life

Procedure

Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • Setting the context

T shows 3 related pictures and ask SS to write the story of the pictures in pairs. SS have to make 5 Sentences maximum. and after they are done writing T will write SS sentences( which are model sentences for the TL) on the board.

Presenting the TL (13-15 minutes) • Teaching grammar

using the SS sentences as the model Sentences, T teach the new grammar (more details in LA sheet) after explaining the meaning, form, and pronunciation, T check SS understanding by asking CCQs. then by drawing a time line on the board and more detailed explanations,T makes sure they understand the TL.

Controlled Practice 1 (8-10 minutes) • To practice TL

SS are given a Gap-fill exercise, to write the write form of the verb in the blanks. T asks them to do it in pairs first. and then show the correct answers on the board. as a follow up, T asks students to complete the time line, drawn below the EX1. again it is done in pairs or groups. after they are done answering T shows the time line and from each group one student will come and attach a verb on the board, if monitors errors while they are answering.

(If -time activity) Controlled Practice 2 (6-8 minutes) • More Practice to clarify the meaning

SS are asked to do EX2, to continue the sentences with verbs given. T asks SS to do it in pairs and then check the WC, with correct answers on the board.

Writing task (12-15 minutes) • To develop writing skill and learn the usage of TL in writing stories.

T asks SS to draw a time line of an imaginary or real story and mark at list 10 dots on it (which shows the time) and write some details for each dot, including time and activity(verb in the base form). then ask SS to give their time line to the student sitting next to them, then SS have to write about the time line, they are given and write a story. . after they are done, SS will discuss their writings in pairs,to see if they wrote the correct story. as the follow up, SS will talk about the interesting story they wrote.
