Likes/ Dislikes
Elementary level


In this lesson, students will learn how to express their likes and dislikes. Also, students will learn phrases to express their degree of interest for example, like/ really like/ quite like/ hate

Main Aims

  • To receive fluency speaking practice in describing likes/ dislikes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review vocabulary of hobbies


Warmer-Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context

T will show pictures and ask them questions T: Does she like cooking? Does he like playing football? Does he like dancing? Does she like shopping? Do they like travelling?

Test (3-5 minutes) • T gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will divide the class in four groups , give free time activity HO and ask them to do it in two minutes. T will ask 'Do you have ten minutes? Do you have two minutes? 'T will put answers on the wall and they will check

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify the ideas of the target languge

T will give the difference between 'verb' and 'verb+ing' giving an example of ' I like books. I like reading books.' (drawing a smiling face) I don't like films. I don't like watching films' (drawing an unhappy face). I will draw a line on the board. Ask students to copy it into their notebooks. Then ask students where to put I love and I hate on the line also will give I really like, I like, I quite like, I don't like, I hate.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the languge again and compare with the first one.

T will ask the Ss to stand up and come in front of the WB.T will give the instructions and give a sheet of questionnaire . Ss will fill the questionnaire by writing their friends' names.Ss:Do you like sushi? - Yes, I do.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide sudents with the free practice of the target language

Ss will work in pairs. They will write 2 true and 1 false things about themselves. Their friend will find the false sentence. I will give an example from myself: I like reading. I like cooking. I like doing sports.
