Description

In this lesson, the students will learn how to convert some adjectives to adverbs.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adverbs in multiple contexts.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of replacing adjectives with adverbs in multiple contexts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. The students take a minute to go through the targeted list. 2. They assess how many of these words do they know. 3. They quietly read the words. After they finish they then tell me how many of the words they know.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. In pairs the students will begin to search for the meaning of the difficult words. 2. The students will use the words in meaningful sentences. 3. They will share the sentences with me.

Highlighting (5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. I will rewrite the student's sentences on the board. 2. I'll draw their attention to the academic context of the words. 3. I'll provide feedback on accuracy.

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

At this stage I'll provide clarification on the following: 1. Meaning by asking CCQs 2. Pronunciation by individually and chorally drilling. 3. Form by drawing their attention to the type of the word.

Free Practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. In pairs, the students will determine/choose some words to use in different sentences with different contexts. 2. The students will share their sentences with each other and see how they used the different words. 3. I'll provide feedback on accuracy.
