In this lesson, students learn about making comparisons (comparatives and superlatives) through PPP (presentation practice production) in the context of “Properties to rent”

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of “Properties to rent”

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shows the chart which is include word and phrases about the homes. Teacher asks the students put them into groups in 3. These groups are: 1-homes and buildings 2-parts of home 3- location After the each student done, there is a brief whole class discussion.

Exposure/ highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The question is asked by teacher such as “what are the five most important things to look for in a new home?” And teacher asks them to answer the questions with their partner. In this way, students can learn new vocabulary about the homes and they can go beyond their shyness.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Time to start reading about “Properties to rent” . In this reading text, there are 3 different homes which are totally different in terms of everything. First home name is Bishopston, second home name is Redland and the last one name is Hotwells. Teacher asked the students about the homes features such as size, color, shape, price, new or old. And when they learn all of things about the homes, class start to doing some exercise on the PowerPoint presentation. While they are doing some activities they can learn the comparatives and superlatives with the sentence structure.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

After everybody learn the important things about the topic, teacher decided to play Kahoot which is really entertaining for the students at that age. Because studying continuously can be boring for children. While they are learning, they can learn with Kahoot.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

At the end of the class, teacher hands out some papers which is include comparisons activities. Not just grammar rules, in the whole sentence, students can differentiate if she/he really understand the topic. And all of the students done the activities, one by one, each students come to the board. Thereby, students can understand the topic by arguing, they can come through easily with the everybody’s participation
