Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making offers and suggestions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Learners will have also discovered the MFP of semi-fixed phrases
  • Learners will have also practised their fluency for speaking in the Post-task discussion.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will show the slide 1, greet students and show them the aim of the class. After that teacher will ask When was the last time someone ask you for help? Who was it? What did he/she ask? Teacher will say an example first and then let students say their examples for 3 min max.

Exposure (4-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will play a video, students have to answer three questions: Is Tina going to start that order for Mrs Thompson? Is Tina going to take out the rubbish? Why does the man want some flowers? The next slide has the answers. Teacher will ask question 1 to a student, question 2 to another and question 3 to a different student.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher will play the audio, just the audio this time and students need to complete the sentences 1. ___ finish thing here, if you want.2. Why ____ you tell me what we still need to do?3. ___ I finish off those flowers?4. Would you ____ me to prepare some of the orders for tomorrow?5. You ___ start with that order for Mrs Thompson.6. Maybe you ___ start on the order for that big birthday party? Teacher will ask for the answers, just the answers one by one. The next slide have the answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will ask learners if the sentences are offers or suggestions, they are 6 sentences and there are 3 offers and 3 suggestions. Teacher will model each, ask students where's the stress, teacher will re-model and ask some students to repeat. Teacher must follow that with the 6 sentences. Teacher may cut the phrase or questions in parts to make it easier.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Slide 10, students will have to complete some sentences using words from the box. A. Shall I book a room for your meeting? B. Yes, good idea. A. ___ you like me to drive you to the station? B. No, I’ll be fine. A. You ____ send her some flowers for her birthday. A. ____ you help me with my report? A. You ____ get a taxi. B. Yes, I’ll do that. A. Would you ____ me to get your kids from school? The first is already done. Teacher will have 3 minutes to answer individually, then they will check in pairs for 2 minutes and teacher will conduct OCFB, the next slide have the answers.

Free Practice (8-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will work in pairs using the different scenarios they can see on the slide, they have to have a conversation and they have to use phrases to offer something or suggest something. Teacher will model the first, students will go to BoR and talk for 4 min. Teacher will conduct DEC. Teacher will write down some of the good sentences or sentences they can say in another way or sentences they said it wrong, teacher will show these and ask students if they knon which sentences are correcct, which sentences can be said in another form
