Description

After checking homework on reading skills about Helen Adams Keller have a discussion about handicapped people, how they overcome their disabilities, ask if Ss know any other famous people with disabilities. Show youtube video about school for disabled people, ask what other types of school do they know. Clarify the meaning of vocabulary with powerpoint presentation, complete exercises in SB. End up with making their own project of perfect school, presenting part of school from each group. Error correction, homework. Target language: primary, secondary, high, nursery, private, state, single-sex, co-educational

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Begin with checking homework, WB: p.32, reading (answers: 1.c, 2.b, 3.c, 4.a, 5.a). First ask if all parts of the text was clear for students and they understand all words. Read the first question, ask one student to give the answer, then ask him to read the question and ask other student the answer, and so on. What do you guys think of Helen Adams? She inspires me a lot, much because she started the whole education for handicapped people. Do you know how do they get educated? Any ideas? Then let's watch a short video about Florida school for deaf and blind people.

Exposure (15-17 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Show a 4 minute video about Florida school for deaf and blind, and the process of learning how to write in Braille. How do you think, is it hard for them to learn? Do you now understand that your school is not that hard? What other types of disabilities you know? Do you know any other famous handicapped person? Discuss in pairs, feedback (who is this person? What is he famous for? Okay after you know about special school for disabled people, what other types of school do you know?

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Open a powerpoint presentation and start doing a table with school vocabulary. Provide vocabulary presentation on school topic in category of school types. To clarify vocabulary meaning. Complete ex.1

Practice (40-40 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ex.2 have a dialogue in pairs about your school, feedback. *name*, what is your partner's most favorite subject at school? *name*, what is your answer to the last question? Have you ever been wrongly blamed for something? What was your reaction? Tell Ss, about my story of being wrongly accused. Ex.3 Listen to Slava's school life and compare it to yours. Now, I'll give you separate pieces of paper and split you in groups. Now, you are the best architects in Russia, and mayor of Chelyabinsk asked you to make a project of perfect school. Group A, you need to draw and later present the perfect classroom. Group B, the whole building. Group C, outside territory of your perfect school.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write some mistakes that Ss did on the whiteboard and ask them to correct it in pairs. When ready - freely stand up and correct the mistake on the whiteboard. If any time is left - continue with exercises in the SB. HW: WB, p.28, ex.1,3
