Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing an online product review.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about online product review.


Lead - in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will engage students into the topic by asking them if they regret buying an online product. I think this question will bring students attention and I´m sure they have some kind of experience they will share.

Exposure - Online product review sample (6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in writing a review.

I will show students some sections of my online product review sample. in this case the sections will be mixed up , students will work individually and order those sections to complete the correct layout of the review. The SILVER PRO is a 1200W hair dryer that contains a ceramic heating element along with an ionic generator. It includes multiple options for heat and speed and has other features such as a cool shot button, an airflow concentrator and an extra-long power cord. In my opinion, this is a powerful product, elegant and especially user-friendly. The helpful range of settings assist achieving smooth hair. However, it´s noisy and it feels kind of heavy after using it for a while. Overall, I´m happy with this purchase, it´s a good investment and I will highly recommend this product for people who are interested in buying a durable hair dryer.

Useful Language (9 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will clarify some adjectives used in the online product review. I will choose three adjectives that are very common when writing about a product, User-friendly. powerful and durable. I will clarify the meaning by asking students to match the words and definitions individually. I would show students the structure of the adjectives : ADJECTIVE + NOUN (POWERFUL PRODUCT) (DURABLE HAIR DRYER) Pronunciation will be cover by eliciting from students which is the stressed syllable in each adjective, I will model pronunciation and asked them to repeat.

Productive task - writing and online product review (15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will think of a time they bought something online and will write their own online product review. This will be done in a PADLET under their names, they will first write the review making sure they use the correct product review layout. Once students are finished they will work in pair to check their writings and will use a checklist .

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After students have written their online product review, feedback will be provided between peers. I will arrange pairs in which they will have to read each others product review and once their done , I will send them to the breakout room with their checklists to tell their partners if they have used the layout correctly for writing an online product. I will then bring back students to main room , asked them about their partner´s product and will cover some delayed errors seen in their writings.
