Description

In this lesson, students will have a receptive skill lesson to practice scanning and detailed reading to answer multiple choice questions with the help of unblocking key vocabularies in the text. The lesson will start by the discussion of the questions that are related to the context of the article.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher presents some discussion questions to lead in and students answer them within their pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher introduces possible blocking words before reading activities.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Teacher asks students to complete the headings in the text with the given words.

While-Reading (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students can choose between the tasks. They can either answer multiple choice questions, or write three questions or summarize the text.

Post-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students complete a chart that are highlighted in the text and use three of the words to write their own example sentences.
