Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice for specific information and detail in the context of conversations at a party.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification on words related to friendly conversations people usually have at a party.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a lead-in I will have students do a matching game. I will ask them to tell about the last party they went to as an initial question, and then, I will ask them follow up questions: 1.When you go to a party do you usually talk to people or do you just stare? 2. Do you enjoy meeting new people?

Pre-Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

We will talk about the usage of the word 'Whereabouts' . I will read a couple of sentences out loud and give them examples of situations on which they can use the target language using the questions: Q; Where are you from? A: I'm from ______ Q: Really? Whereabouts? A: Not far from_______ I will also ask students to identify the difference in pronunciation between the words lawyer' and 'law' since pronunciation can often be confused, I will show the pronunciation differences on a slide that looks like a highlighted board and compare the two words. I will model the word with the correct pronunciation. Choral drill

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening task.

I will instruct the students to write on a separate piece of paper the following questions: 1. What the audio is about? 2, Who is talking? 3. What is the reason of their conversation? 4. Is there a relationship between individuals? This will be individual work. I will ask them to listen and try to identify the main idea of the audio.
