Main Aims

  • To provide students listening and pronunciation activities through an engaging lesson in the context of a popular song

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a mirroring activity


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss the picture of BigChefs restaurant and asks "Where is it?" and "Why is it my favorite restaurant?". Ss guess, T gives clues if necessary.

Pre-Teach Vocab (10-12 minutes) • To provide students info about the vocabulary in the upcoming song

T shows Ss the Vocab Collage and asks students to stick the correct vocabulary cut-up to the correct picture. Ss do the task individually, T checks the answers, asks relevant CCQs, and drills the vocab.

While Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

T distributes Ss the Lyrics cut-ups and asks Ss to order the lyrics as they hear them. T plays the song, Ss can pause the song, rewind it, forward it if it's necessary. T checks the order with the whole class and gives necessary feedback.

While Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T distributes the Freer Practice questions and gives some time to Ss to read the questions. T plays the song one more time, Ss listen to the song and answer the questions. T checks the answers with the class and provides necessary feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the song and practise on pronunciation

T sticks the lyrics out of the classroom, asks students to choose a writer in their group. Gives necessary instructions. Ss complete the task with an exciting song in the background.
