Description

In this lesson, students learn about occupations through listening activities, repitition drills, pair works, a mime contest, and a worksheet prepared to evaluate their knowledge of vocabulary, indefinite articles and plural forms of nouns.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice in understanding and talking about occupations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a good pronounciation by listening and repeating activities.
  • To provide review, clarification and practice of the new words.
  • To provide clarification and practice of the affirmative form of verb be in the context of occupations.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To warm-up for the second session. Speaking.

Introduce yourself and the activity toy. Throw the toy to one of the students and ask a question. Ask them to throw it to each other one after another by introducing themselves.

Vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To provide word knowledge about occupations.

1. Chest the flash-cards and elicit vocabulary. Swap pictures and ask them to repeat the words. 2. Stick the flash-cards on the WB in two colomns except the photo of the retired man. Do this in accordance with the indefinite article they take. Stick the words in a mixed way. Ask students to come to the WB and stick each paper of words next to the right pictures.

Grammar Review and Listening (8-10 minutes) • To turn back to indefinite articles. To reach better pronounciation.

1.Ask the students the difference between two columns. Stick "A" on the top of one column and "an" on the other. 2. Page 24, Ex: 2. (a-an). Let them listen check the answers. 3. Listening and repeating activity: Page 24, Ex: 3. Page 25, Ex: 2. Page 25, Ex: 1.

Grammar (Verb be affirmative) (7-8 minutes) • To provide knowledge of the forms of verb be in simple present tense. To remind contractions.

1. Removing the toy, give exemplary sentences using different subject pronouns. 2. Briefly remind contractions by a few exemplary sentences. Ask them to do Ex: 1-2 on page 25. Check the answers on the WB.

Language Practice (4-5 minutes) • To learn how to ask about jobs.

After listening and repeating the questions, use Bob to ask one of the students about his/her job. After giving the answer, ask him/her to throw Bob to a friend and ask about job.

Wrap-up Game: "What do you do?" (13-15 minutes) • To repeat the new words and practice language with a contest-like game.

Divide the students into two groups. Draw a chart on the WB. Ask one person from each group to come and pick a paper from the box and mime it for his/her group to guess. The teacher asks "What's my job?" The group has to guess it in a minute to score.
