Ss will learn and practice how to use future perfect and future continuous through the concept of making future arrangements.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of in future perfect & future continuous in the context of making future plans
  • To provide clarification of using future perfect and future continuous in the context of making future plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation with a friend in the context of making future plans
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about making plans in the context of making future plans

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask Ss: What are you doing tomorrow night? When will you be free? Allowing then to begin contextualising the lesson and hopefully start using some of the language and phrases I will be teaching in this lesson.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask the Ss this question: What are Dan and Michael trying to arrange and when? I will then show the Ss my text and get them to read for gist for 3 minutes. I will then get them to answer the questions stated above. And expand further if they have not identified the tense of the arrangement in the text. T: Are they talking about the past, present or future plans? Ss: Future plans as they are trying to arrange dinner tomorrow night (friday).

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will go over MFPA of the TL. I will elicit the meaning of the TL from Ss. Form/structure of the TL in fixed sentences will be provided with additional examples for clarification. I will aask Ss CQ to make this phrase a future perfect phrase "i finish studying on Friday" - I will have finished studying by Friday. Ss will complete a timeline using a phrase from the 2 tenses as a CC Pronunciation will be demonstrated by T adn Ss will provide which words were stressed along with linkage. T will show IPA of difficult words and the individual sounds within the sentence. T will drill Ss chorally and then individually

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will complete a multiple choice gap fill for 6 minutes. Ss will go through their answers as a class and T correcting if required. Feedback will be provided by T

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will answer the original lead in question using the language they have just learnt and discuss their plans with a partner in BOR for 4 minutes. Ss will rotate and do the exercise again with another partner. Ss will receive feedback from T and DEC Ss will ask any final questions. T will thank Ss for their attention and work during this lesson and end the lesson.
