Description

In this lesson, Ss will study twelve phrasal verbs. They will learn about their meanings and how some phrasal verbs can have a different meaning from their original verb. Ss will learn about how phrasal verbs are formed and that some of them are separable and some others are insiberable. Also, they will learn how to pronounce them and finally practice using them in sentences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic and engage students

1- T Starts by showing some pictures of different countries using PPP. 2- T asks students CCQs such as "do you know these countries" "Do you like travelling? Why/ why not?" and "Where would you like to travel?" 3- T elicits answers and gives feedback

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To expose students to the target language in coming tasks through listening

1. T sets the context by saying ‘’ now you will listen Megan and Clive talking about their jobs.’’ Then gives instructions ‘’ Listen and answer the questions. 2. T asks a couple of ICQs to check their understanding e.g. How many questions are you going to answer? 3. T hands students the task. 4. T plays the recording for students to listen and complete the task. 5. When students finish, they check their answers in pairs. 6. T gives feedback.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the target language.

1- Before the stage of clarification of the target language, T sets the task and gives instructions ‘’ now you will try to guess the meaning of each phrasal verb and match it with its definition. Work in pairs or groups 2. T uses ICQs to check students’ understanding of instructions. 3. When the five minutes are finished, Ss check answers with their partners. 4. T shows Ss the answer on a PPPT slide. 5. T starts to clarify the meaning of each phrasal verb by asking CCQs to check Ss understanding. 6. T moves to elicit the different forms of the target language by asking CCQs. T points to a phrasal verb and asks "how many particles do you have in set off?" 7. practice how to pronounce each phrasal verb correctly and ask students to repeat individually and in groups.

Controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to use the target language and check Ss' understanding

1. T chests the task and gives instructions’’ replace the phrases in bold with the correct forms of the phrasal verbs in the table". You have 5 minutes.’’ 2. T hands students the task. 3. Students complete the task individually. 4. T monitors to offer help. 5. Then Students check their answers in pairs or groups. 6. T asks Ss to look at the PPT slide to check their answers.

Free Practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1- T sets the task and gives instructions "Now you will ask and answer the questions in Ex 1a". work in pairs. 2- T monitor to offer help and to note any language problems for feedback.

Feedback and error correction (2-5 minutes) • To correct common errors

1. T writes some sentences produced by Ss that are good examples of language use along with some examples of inaccurate language use. 2. T asks students which are correct and which are not correct. 3. T gives feedback.
